Our Story

Reconnection by doing, not just buying.

Modern cities are engineered for efficiency — not belonging. In closing the distance between places, they quietly widened the distance between people and the rhythms that once gave daily life its meaning. The commute & ETA has replaced the walk to a neighbour's home - taking the fun of what you would do enroute - the little fun things of those days, to have nothing but still being happiest.

Setwork was built to close that gap and bring all of you closer to an integral part of Purity - Authenticity - Charisma - Kaleidoscope ( "kaleidoscope" is a beautiful metaphor for constant change and shifting perspectives ) of our amazingly rich and diverse rural communities. We work with women's self-help groups (SHGs) in Uttarakhand's hill villages under two flagship programs — SEED (Sustainable Entrepreneurial Enterprises for the DisFranchised) and THUMS UP (The Himalayan Udyam Mahila Sashaktikaran for Uttarakhand People). These programs equip women with technology — solar dryers, extraction units, soil-testing kits — while keeping their traditional knowledge at the centre of everything they make.

When you buy from Setwork, 81% of the price goes directly to the cooperative. Published, transparent, always.

Traditional craftsmanship

Preserving Heritage Through Innovation

Digitisation and modern technology are not replacing tradition—they are strengthening it. By combining age-old Himalayan craftsmanship with sustainable tools and modern processes, we help women artisans improve quality, increase their income, and preserve cultural heritage for future generations.

Every product reflects a balance between innovation and authenticity, ensuring that traditional knowledge continues to thrive while creating meaningful livelihoods in the Himalayan communities.

SEED & THUMS UP

Programs behind the products

Every product on Setwork is rooted in the SEED and SAKSHAM initiatives, which empower women in Uttarakhand’s hill communities through sustainable livelihoods, entrepreneurial mentorship, and technology-driven solutions. The four SEED pillars—Bio-Resource, Agriculture, Environment, and Skills—build self-reliant rural enterprises by promoting value addition, climate-smart farming, waste-to-wealth innovations, and skill development, while the SAKSHAM FIRE (Financial Independence through Resourceful Entrepreneurship) program strengthens digital and financial literacy, enabling women and girls to establish successful micro and small enterprises and achieve long-term economic independence.

THUMS UP · Bio-Resource

Himalayan Women Bio-Resource Value Addition

Developing a technology-based value chain for Himalayan bio-resources — medicinal herbs, wild fruits, and forest products — so women earn from the biodiversity around them rather than watching it go to waste.

  • Solar dryers for herbs and wild fruits
  • Essential oil extraction units
  • Packaging and branding training for SHG enterprises
  • Higher income from forest products
Impact: 150–200 women entrepreneurs · Reduced wastage of natural resources
SEED · Agriculture

Climate-Smart Agriculture & Nutrition Gardens

Introducing scientific farming technologies for women farmers in hill villages — so climate change becomes a challenge they are equipped to meet, not a crisis they endure alone.

  • Soil testing kits for precision farming
  • Micro-irrigation systems for hill terrain
  • Millet and medicinal plant cultivation
  • Climate-resilient crop training workshops
Impact: Increased farm productivity · Better nutrition · Improved women farmer incomes
SEED · Environment

Waste-to-Wealth Innovation for Hill Communities

Converting rural waste — including pine needles that fuel Uttarakhand's forest fires — into valuable products. A green livelihood built on solving an environmental problem.

  • Organic composting units for farm waste
  • Biogas plants for household energy
  • Pine needle briquette machines
  • Reduced forest fire risk through collection
Impact: Cleaner villages · Additional income · Lower fire risk
SEED · Skills

Rural Women Skill & Entrepreneurship Development Hub

A multi-skill technology training hub that builds the long-term human capacity behind every Setwork product — from the processing unit to the digital storefront.

  • Food processing technology training
  • Herbal product manufacturing
  • Digital marketing and online sales
  • Eco-tourism management
Impact: 300+ women trained · New rural enterprises · Reduced migration
Women at the centre

Financial independence through what the land already gives.

The Himalayan forest has always provided — herbs, fruits, fibres, pigments — but the women who knew how to use them had no market, no infrastructure, and no way to turn that knowledge into income. THUMS UP and SEED exist to change that.

Every product on Setwork is connected to a named woman or SHG cooperative. We document their process, train them in digital identity and branding, and handle the bridge to buyers — so they can focus entirely on what they do best.

All SEED and THUMS UP training programs are delivered completely free of cost to participants. Skills first, enterprise second.

How the cooperative model works

Named artisan, named SHG
Every product is tied to a specific woman or cooperative — not a generic "village" label. You know exactly who made it and where.
Technology meets tradition
Solar dryers, extraction units, soil kits, and micro-irrigation — tools that enhance traditional knowledge rather than replace it.
Digital identity for each artisan
SEED's training hub includes digital marketing — so women build their own brand presence, not just supply a platform.
Published wage bands
Fair earnings, openly stated. We publish what each cooperative receives so buyers know their money reaches the right hands.
Free to all participants
All SEED and THUMS UP programs are delivered at zero cost — because access to skill should never be a barrier to independence.
